Toastmasters is a nonprofit organization and the world leader in the art of communication (speaking, listening, and thinking) and leadership development. You will find a positive, supportive learning environment where each member has the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills. COMMUNICATION: At Toastmasters, you master new tools to communicate increasingly effectively, identify all areas needing improvement, recognize your strengths to further enhance them, and apply the communication process to efficiently achieve your purpose in every speech. LEADERSHIP: Sometimes we step onto the stage; other times, we operate behind the scenes, directing the front line! When working behind the scenes, we bear the responsibility of supporting members who take the stage to deliver their speeches. This responsibility manifests in specific roles—for example, speech evaluators. THE LAGOAS SPEAKERS TOASTMASTERS CLUB: The Lagoas Speakers meet weekly at Cisco on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. Typically, sessions are divided into three segments, each featuring a different type of speech: PREPARED SPEECHES: Weekly, members deliver prepared speeches aligned with the Communication Manual—either the foundational or advanced manuals. IMPROMPTU SPEECHES: The challenge… 30 seconds to think… then deliver a speech. EVALUATIONS: Constructive feedback provided on the entire session—from speeches to evaluators. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?: Visiting—free! Come visit us and see for yourself how it works! WHO CAN ATTEND? Anyone interested in developing communication and leadership skills—students, professionals, and individuals of all ages. Guests are welcome.
