Expanded time and heterodyne detector, very popular, with precise digital display featuring large, backlit digits showing the tuned frequency in heterodyne mode. Frequency and volume controls are located on the side, facilitating adjustment. Using stereo headphones, the heterodyne signal is heard on the left channel and the time-expanded signal on the right channel. When using a speaker, either the heterodyne or time-expanded signal can be selected. A digital recorder can be connected to the D240X to record time-expanded sounds for later analysis on a PC. If the recorder has a "voice activation" option, bat sound recording becomes completely automatic, allowing the D240X to be left in the field for automatic bat sound recording.
