Immanuel, however, is not merely a journalist and editor; he is quickly drawn into a world of double games. On one hand, he works with British intelligence services to spread anti-Nazi propaganda in Germany; on the other, using invisible ink in a letter, he reveals to mysterious German correspondents the British plan to blow up the port of Oxelösund—through which flows much of the iron ore essential to the German war industry. After all, who was Dr. B.? A spy, a resistance fighter, or a manipulated journalist? Based on real events, reconstructed from a mysterious cardboard box discovered in an attic, Daniel Birnbaum recreates the atmosphere of a Stockholm where major international interests collide to decide the fate of World War II, disrupting many lives. A fascinating story, told with rare literary quality.
