Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a candidate to strengthen our team responsible for governing applications developed by end users, ensuring reliability, control, and regulatory alignment.
Key Highlights:
1. Balance between control and pragmatism.
2. Cross-functional work with impact across the bank.
3. Governance function, critical analysis, and coordination.
**Description:**
----------------
**The BiG is a national bank specializing in Savings and Investment, with operations in Portugal, Spain, and Mozambique.**
**Imagine doing what you've always loved and building a career in Investment Banking... Imagine yourself at BiG!**
At BiG, multiple business areas develop their own solutions — from Excel macros to Python scripts — supporting critical processes such as calculation, reporting, and decision-making.
These solutions (EUDAs – End User Developed Applications) are essential but introduce operational, data quality, and regulatory compliance risks.
**We are expanding our team with a profile that helps ensure these solutions are:**
* Reliable;
* Controlled;
* Auditable;
* Aligned with regulatory requirements such as DORA.
This role is not purely technical — it is a governance role involving critical analysis and business coordination.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Identify and map critical EUDAs across different bank departments;
* Assess risk and criticality (financial, operational, regulatory);
* Review solutions built in Python, Excel, and other end-user tools;
* Define and implement risk-proportionate controls (without hindering business operations).
* Ensure best practices in:
* data management;
* versioning;
* documentation;
* auditability;
* Collaborate with business, IT, risk, and audit teams;
* Prepare evidence and support for internal and external audits.
**A key part of this role is balancing control vs. pragmatism**
**Requirements:**
-----------------
**️** **What we’re looking for**
**Technical foundation**
* Minimum 3 years’ experience with Python (data scripting, automation, analysis);
* Comfort working with data and databases (SQL or equivalent);
* Advanced Excel experience (formulas, macros are valued).
**More important than technical skills**
We seek someone who demonstrates:
* Critical, risk-oriented thinking;
* Ability to distinguish what is critical versus irrelevant;
* Pragmatism (avoiding overly heavy solutions);
* Ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical business areas;
* Strong communication and influence over decisions;
➕ **We value**
* A university degree in IT or related field;
* Experience in regulated environments (banking, insurance, consulting);
* Exposure to auditing, internal control, or risk management;
* Experience with governance frameworks (formal or informal);
* Knowledge of DORA or operational resilience topics.
**What this role is NOT:**
* It is not a pure development position;
* It is not full-time Excel maintenance;
* It is not an audit role disconnected from reality.
**It is a cross-functional impact role, where you will help make the bank more robust.**
**At BiG, we evolve with everyone’s input. Your opinion can make a difference. Apply now!**
