The ONT—Optical Network Terminal—developed in Aveiro by PT Inovação, is a terminal device for fiber-optic access networks—similar in concept to an ADSL modem—with bandwidth up to 2.5 gigabits per second, delivering voice, data, and video services (commonly known as triple play). The ONT features one of the lowest power consumptions on the market (less than 4 W), incorporating an internal power control system and mechanisms for remote configuration and fault diagnostics, as well as software updates.
