Orientation toward continuous improvement Functional Data Architect Country: Portugal **Location:** Lisbon **General Role Description** We are looking for a Functional Data Architect to join the CDO (Chief Data Office) data team. This role will play a critical part in designing and defining data solutions across diverse data projects at Banco Santander Totta—including the most strategic and large-scale initiatives—specifically regarding the data model, identification of sources of truth (SSoT), sequential data flow and update timing, preventive controls, and ensuring adherence to best principles and practices of functional data architecture. Ensuring coherence, quality, and efficiency in information flows. The position requires a combination of analytical thinking, functional business knowledge, and hands-on experience in complex data environments. The candidate should ideally have experience in data projects of varying scales, an aptitude for understanding and “speaking” business, strong teamwork capabilities, and orientation toward continuous improvement; they will also serve as a key support point for other teams in defining optimal technical and functional solutions. **Key Responsibilities** * Act as the functional data reference in critical data and reporting projects, actively participating in the definition of: + Data models aligned with business needs; + Data sources and extraction rules; + End-to-end data flows; + Preventive controls and data quality mechanisms. * Support the definition of guidelines, principles, and best practices in data architecture, ensuring their consistent dissemination across Bank teams via training sessions. * Monitor and oversee the cross-functional implementation of defined guidelines, guaranteeing their correct application across various projects and domains. * Collaborate closely with other technical and business teams to align functional and technical requirements, facilitating communication and mutual understanding among stakeholders. * Identify opportunities for improvement and propose innovative solutions in the domain of functional data architecture. **Requirements** * Minimum 5 years of experience in data projects. * Solid knowledge of data modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical). * Experience in analyzing and defining functional requirements. * Ability to understand and translate business needs into data models and processes. * Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with BI tools and data platforms. * Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (Technology, Analytics, Business). **Preferred Qualifications:** * Experience in the banking sector. * Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms, such as Databricks. * Knowledge of Python and notebooks for data exploration and validation. * Familiarity with data management tools and frameworks (e.g., Data Governance, Data Lineage, Data Quality). * Certifications in areas such as Data Management (e.g., DAMA) or related fields. * Spanish language communication skills. **About Us** *At Santander, each of us is a “Risk Pro.” This means taking personal responsibility for identifying, assessing, managing, and reporting any risks to the Bank arising from the performance of our roles.
