Arrested for the first time at age 15, he was imprisoned at Aljube, Peniche, Caxias, and the Tarrafal concentration camp—where he was the youngest political prisoner. After breaking with the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), he continued his political activism, participated in the 1962 assault on the Beja barracks, and later joined the Socialist Party, serving as an elected deputy across several legislative terms. He served as president of RTP and became involved in controversies, including the possession of weapons during the “Hot Summer” of 1975; he was acquitted in 1978. He was awarded the rank of Grand Officer and later Grand Cross of the Order of Liberty, leaving behind a legacy of struggle for democracy and freedom. He died in 2018 at the age of 99. The book contains a dedication to Edmundo Pedro himself, rendering it a historically and symbolically significant item. See our other listings—in all advertisements by this seller.
