This book is the first comprehensive account of a code existing in the Bible that reveals events occurring thousands of years after the Bible was written. Thus, it may be the first draft of the future. We are beginning to understand the Bible code. It is like a puzzle with an infinite number of pieces, of which we possess only a few hundred or a few thousand. All we can do is imagine the complete picture. The only thing I can state with certainty is that there is a code in the Bible, and in some dramatic cases it has predicted events that occurred exactly as foretold. There is no way to know whether the code is also accurate about the more distant future. I have tried to handle this story the same way I would handle any other story—as an investigative reporter. I spent five years verifying the facts. Nothing was accepted on faith. I confirmed each discovery made in the Bible code on my own computer using two different programs—the same one used by the Israeli mathematician who first discovered the code, and a second program independently developed from it. I also interviewed scientists from the United States and Israel who investigated the code. I witnessed many of the events described here. Accounts of other events are based on interviews with people directly involved or were confirmed through publications. At the end of this book, I provide detailed notes for each chapter, notes on the illustrations, and a reprint of the original experiment that proved the reality of the Bible code. My goal was to report what is encoded in the Bible in the same way I reported police-district incidents while working at the Washington Post, and in the same way I reported business activities while working at the Wall Street Journal. I am neither a rabbi nor a priest, nor a Bible scholar; I hold no preconceived beliefs. I have a single objective—the truth. This book is not the final word. It is the first report.
