Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non\-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Champalimaud Research Program \- Molecular and Transgenic Tools Platform. **The selected candidate will:** We are seeking a highly\-motivated person, passionate for science, interested in technology, eager to learn and to solve problems, with personal competences to work in a service\-based environment, with good inter\-personal skills, high degree of initiative, and capable of operating with autonomy in a laboratory environment. This person/fellow will integrate the Molecular and Transgenics Tools Platform team. The Molecular and Transgenic Tools Platform (MTTP) is a specialized technological hub providing end\-to\-end support in molecular biology, gene editing, genotyping, cell culture, and viral vector production. Our expert team offers highly specialized consultancy and technical execution, ranging from basic cloning to the design of complex knock\-out/knock\-in (KO/KI) constructs. The platform provides tailored genotyping services for major animal models, including mouse (Mus musculus), fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) and zebrafish (Danio rerio). By collaborating directly with the animal platforms, our team continuously develops and optimizes custom protocols to support diverse research requirements. A core pillar of the platform is our viral vector facility, which produces high\-titer AAV, lentivirus, and retrovirus. We provide engineering services tailored to specific experimental demands, as well as a ready\-to\-use repository of stock viruses. The MTTP acts as a hub of shared resources and expertise for the entire institutional and national research communities by achieving cost\-minimizing objectives. **Primary responsibilities:** a) Perform gDNA extraction, PCRs and capillary gel electrophoresis as part of the animal genotyping service; b) Maintain cell lines and provide mycoplasma testing service to the CR community; c) Assist in the production of high\-titer virus preps (Adeno Associated Viruses, Lentiviruses, and Retroviruses); d) Help manage common laboratory areas, in particular the BSL\-2 lab; e) Help manage common reagents, materials and equipment belonging to the platform. **Employer:** Champalimaud Foundation **Number and type of fellowships or contracts to be awarded:** one (1\) fellowship **Application start date:** 01/08/2026 **Application closing date:** until position is filled **Expected position starting date:** as soon as possible **Required Education Level:** BSc plus experience /MSc #### **Requirements** Research Field: Biological sciences Education Level: Bachelor Degree or equivalent #### **Skills / Qualifications** ##### ***Minimum qualifications:*** Degree in Biomedical/Biotechnological Laboratory Science or other relevant Life and/or Health Sciences. ##### ***Essential skills:*** * Experience on basic laboratory techniques (1\+ years) * Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team * Ability to multi\-task in a fast\-paced environment, with high\-demand peaks of work * Excellent interpersonal, organisational, oral, and written communication skills are required * Good communication skills, including fluency of oral and written English ##### ***Desirable skills that will also be considered:*** * Experience on a Biomedical Research environment * Previous experience with genotyping procedures * Previous experience with Molecular Biology techniques (e.g. PCR, RT\-PCR, nucleic acid extraction, molecular cloning) * Previous experience with cell culture and virus production * Knowledge of common cloning design software will be valued. * Troubleshooting capacity and attention to detail are extremely important #### **Languages** ENGLISH Level: Excellent #### **Benefits** * Remuneration package commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. * Full immersion into a research excellence ecosystem with highly motivated researchers, supported by state\-of\-the\-art technology and continuous development opportunities. * Initial duration: 6 months, with possibility of renewal for additional periods. #### **Eligibility criteria** National, Foreign or Stateless candidate(s) who hold a Life and/or Health Sciences or other related scientific areas and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed. #### **Selection process** Candidates will be screened to determine eligibility based on minimum qualifications listed in call. Candidates meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the required application materials: * CV 70% weighting, * Motivation letter 20%, * Interview 10% (in case of a tie). If provided, and if shortlisted, candidates’ referees may be contacted and may count towards evaluation. When tied, top candidates will be interviewed (in person, or remotely). The result of the interview is then the sole evaluation criteria (basic documentation required).
