Functions include conducting social and educational diagnostics, identifying risk and protective factors, designing, implementing, and evaluating individual, family, and community intervention plans, as well as developing programs for preventing school dropout and promoting equal opportunities. They further include socio-educational support for students and families, parental support, coordination with internal and external school services (namely social action, health, local authorities, and child and youth protection commissions), and participation in multidisciplinary teams, closely collaborating with the fields of Educational Psychology and Vocational Guidance. These functions are performed with technical autonomy and professional responsibility, in accordance with higher-level guidelines and the structural instruments of the educational institution.
