Book in as-new condition. SYNOPSIS Denouncing the injustice of repression and political persecution carried out by the Estado Novo regime, the play Fortunately, There Is Moonlight!, published in 1961—the same year as Angústia para o Jantar—was banned by censorship for many years. It was only staged for the first time in 1978 at the Teatro Nacional, in a production directed by Sttau Monteiro himself. I am a man of concrete, real theatre—of the stage. For me, theatre comes into being only when it is on stage, when it establishes a concrete, social relationship within a people and a group. The book alone—or the text—holds very little meaning for me, despite my being a playwright. (…) If you represent the theatre of the future, then I represent that of the past. I am a man for whom only the performance matters. These words were spoken by Sttau Monteiro and published in Le théâtre sous la contrainte, proceedings of the International Colloquium held in Aix-en-Provence on December 4th and 5th, 1985, published by the University of Provence in 1988. It is with this quotation that Professor José Oliveira Barata—author of Para Compreender Felizmente Há Luar!, a study also published by Areal Editores—illustrates how the dramatic text constitutes merely a first step toward fostering, among both teachers and students, an appreciation for theatre understood as a socially shared cultural expression.
