BEN4US aims to accelerate the transition toward smooth and sustainable urban mobility by replacing traditional individual ownership models with scalable, efficient shared-ownership and shared-use solutions. **Job Description** We are looking for an experienced (Senior-level) Backend Developer to join our engineering team. Your primary responsibilities will include designing and developing robust, scalable backend systems critical to supporting our core services and data flows. This role requires in-depth knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and communication protocols such as HTTP, MQTT, and RPC. The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient microservices using Java, Kotlin, or Go—while simultaneously ensuring high availability, performance, and maintainability of our platforms. Key responsibilities for this position include: * Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, Kotlin, or Go. * Implement and integrate communication protocols, including HTTP/REST, MQTT (for publish/subscribe communication), and RPC (e.g., gRPC or custom solutions). * Develop scalable microservice-based architectures with strong emphasis on event-driven solutions and stream processing, leveraging technologies such as Apache Kafka. * Optimize application service performance, reliability, and monitoring. * Collaborate closely with DevOps, frontend, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of features. * Produce clean, sustainable, and well-documented code with strong unit and integration test coverage. * Participate in code reviews. * Continuously identify and adopt new tools and technologies that enhance solution efficiency, resilience, and quality. **Qualifications** * Academic degree in Systems Informatics, Computer Engineering, or related fields. * Proven experience developing backend services using Java, Kotlin, or Go. * Solid knowledge of system architecture and data modeling. * Practical experience with HTTP/REST, MQTT, and RPC protocols (e.g., gRPC, Thrift, or equivalents). * Experience with event-driven architectures and tools such as Apache Kafka or similar. * Experience with relational and non-relational (NoSQL) databases. * Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, as well as automated testing practices. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills. * Experience with real-time systems or IoT-oriented platforms (preferred). * Practical knowledge of message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ (preferred). * Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry (preferred). * Solid application security knowledge—including authentication mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT), authorization, and data encryption (preferred). * Experience defining and implementing *event\-driven architectures*, including publish/subscribe patterns, event sourcing, or stream processing (preferred). **Additional Information** * Office located by the sea, just two steps from Parque da Cidade.
