Integrated amplifier in perfect working condition, with some signs of use attributable to its age. It is the mid-range model in Harman Kardon’s line of solid-state integrated amplifiers. Like the flagship HK6500, it offers a range of features including loudness correction, subsonic filtering, and mono/stereo mode selection. It also includes a third line input (monitor tape), designed to accommodate an external surround processor—or even a graphics card! In addition to the standard treble, bass, and balance controls. Other inputs include tape, video, CD, tuner, and turntable. Like the HK6500, this amplifier also supports MC (moving coil) phono cartridges in addition to standard MM (moving magnet) types. Internal construction adheres faithfully to Hong Kong’s tradition—ensuring high reliability and durability. In terms of sound quality, notable characteristics include high musicality and energy, solid and dynamic bass, and excellent overall tonal balance. It is not a studio-grade amplifier that reveals every detail and flaw—details which would go unnoticed during relaxed listening. Its treble response is restrained, and its midrange represents a well-balanced compromise. Clearly optimized for extended listening sessions, delivering an immersive and pleasing sound. I tested it with various speakers: AR-12, B&W DM100i, Infinity Reference 50, and Sony SS-5200. In all cases, the pairing was flawless—the amplifier’s characteristic sound signature was consistently present, and none of the speaker models lacked the necessary power to perform at their best. Finally, its frequency response is truly astonishing! Technical specifications: Output power: 60 watts per channel into 8Ω stereo Frequency response: 0.5Hz to 150kHz Total harmonic distortion: 0.09% Damping factor: 65 Input sensitivity: 0.12mV (MC), 2.2mV (MM), 135mV (line) Signal-to-noise ratio: 76dB (MC), 80dB (MM), 98dB (line) Dimensions: 443×103×361 mm (width × height × depth) Weight: 8 kg Year of release: 1991
