Around it, an entire community of alternative firmware developers has formed, adding extra functionality to the device. The WRT54GL model belongs to the family whose firmware source code is open for implementation and customization, yet it remains compatible with Windows. This family includes two production models: the WRT54GL (open-source) and the WRT54GS Speed Boosters. There is also the compact WRT54GC model, whose coverage range is 10% less than that of the WRT54G; when labeled WRT54GC-LA (LA stands for Latin America), it ships with datasheets and manuals in Portuguese and Spanish.
