A Thousand Acres - Jane Smiley

Description

"The Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller 'A Thousand Acres' was written by one of America's foremost contemporary novelists. Larry Cook's farm is the largest in Zebulon County, Iowa, and a reflection of his hard work and perseverance. Suddenly, Larry—a proud and possessive man—decides to retire and give the farm to his three daughters, an action highly uncharacteristic of his temperament. Ginny and Rose, his two elder daughters, are surprised by their father's decision but eager to accept. Caroline, the youngest, has reservations, and immediately her father disowns her. In 'A Thousand Acres,' Jane Smiley transposes the story of King Lear to modern-day America, casting new light on Shakespeare's original while subtly transforming it. This remarkable novel received America's two most prestigious literary awards: the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award." Selling book in good condition.
