Debate topic for **October 28** **What news should be covered by the media?** How can we raise public awareness better? In today’s world, many serious events are happening every day. Wars, human rights abuses, environmental disasters, political corruption, and more. Indeed, not all of these stories make it into the news. Some major issues receive little or no coverage. Even large organizations like the United Nations may not bring enough attention to these problems. Who decides what news is shared with the public? Why do some stories get global attention while others are ignored? Media often focuses on stories that “sell” or bring in ad revenue, which can lead to serious issues being overlooked. This time we reason about what kind of news should be prioritized; local, national, or international. Does the media have a moral duty to report on suffering, injustice, and global crises? What about social media, independent journalism, citizen reporting, and other new technologies. Could they help share important stories more widely and honestly? How can we make sure the world knows about what’s really happening, not just what powerful groups want to show?
